phosphorus ASU

Current human use of phosphorus (P) is unsustainable, as geological and geopolitical uncertainties threaten the supply critical for fertilizer production while wasteful use pollutes rivers, lakes and oceans.

The Sustainable P Initiative (SPI) addresses these complex challenges through our joint initiatives for research (P RCN) and implementation (NAPPS) of P solutions. The P RCN and NAPPS share four themes for P sustainability: P Recycling, P Efficiency in Food Production, P Demand: Population, Food Choice & BioEnergy, and P & Water Quality.
